PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP
A talk on OSTEOPOROSIS by Christine Sharp
PPG Chari Alan Camplin welcomed everyone to the meeting with 22 attendees, 10 from Windhill Green, 8 from Saltaire, 3 from Baildon, 1 from Idle plus our speaker.
Alan introduced Christine Sharp, a volunteer from the Royal Osteoporosis Society, who gave a detailed talk on Osteoporosis, what it is, how it affects people, how it is diagnosed, how it can be treated and what to do to try and prevent it. She also talked about the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) which is currently available in about 50% of UK NHS Hospitals. Fortunately for us in our area both Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale General Hospital a operate FLS for anyone who has suffered a broken bone where they should be scanned for possible Osteoporosis.
Tea/Coffee followed with time for a good chat.
Our next meeting is Tuesday 12th December 1.30pm Room 2 Shipley Library, and is our Christmas get together.
